Exploring Deck and Patio Builds

Hi, I'm Ozzie Reida. Welcome to my site about residential patios, deck builds, and construction techniques. The deck is my favorite place to read a book or watch the birds hop around the yard. With the right deck, your yard can feel like an extension of your home. You can quietly relax, visit with friends or even cook on your patio or deck space. I would like to explore outdoor structure designs, materials, finishes and accents on my website. I would also like to talk about deck and patio trends embraced all around the world. I hope you will visit often to learn all you can about these amazing outdoor structures. Thank you for coming by my website. Please visit often.

3 Mistakes That Put Your Home At Risk For A Fire

Construction & Contractors Blog

Without realizing it, you and your family could be making mistakes that could increase the risk of a house fire. Many of those mistakes are avoidable with simple care. Here are some mistakes that you and your family need to be watching out for to prevent a fire.

Failing to Update Your Smoke Alarms

One of the biggest mistakes that homeowners make is installing their smoke alarms and forgetting to update them when necessary. Even if you are replacing the batteries faithfully, the alarms are still aging and at some point, they should be replaced with new ones.

When installing your smoke alarms, write the installation date on them and change them out after a decade of use. In addition to updating your alarms, make sure you are changing out the batteries twice a year.

Forgetting to Clean the Dryer's Lint Filter

Lint that is in your filter can buildup and catch fire if it is not cleaned out on a regular basis. Ideally, you should clean the filter each time you use the dryer. Even with regular cleaning of the filter, lint can start to build up in the vents.

You can clean the vents using a special brush that is found at a home improvement store. Ideally, you should clean the vents at least once a year. In addition, you should have the vents cleaned by a professional every few years to ensure that any build up is removed.

Underestimating the Importance of Residential Sprinklers

Fire sprinklers are not just for commercial buildings. A residential fire sprinkler system can help prevent a fire from spreading in the event that one starts. The system could often mean the difference between minor damage and a complete loss of your home. Sprinklers are also a cost-effective option that could potentially save you and your family.

Some homeowners have shied away from installing fire sprinklers due to a misconception that they can be triggered easily by any source of heat. In actuality, the sprinklers are triggered by heat of a certain temperature and not necessarily smoke or heat that would come from cooking or other heat-related activities.

To make sure you and your family are not making any other serious mistakes that could result in a fire, talk to a fire protection expert. You can get an assessment of your home's risk and take action to lower the chances of a fire occurring.
